PLEASANTON
Alright, Tornado season is over and I’m chomping at the bit to strap on my Gretsch and hit the clubs. Bagged 8 tornadoes this year including the catch of my life… A ghostly tornado materialized in front of my camera, danced and whirled, twisted and floated within 75 yards of me, blew me a kiss and got the hell out of Dodge. Dig this…

Johnny, John and Hank in a church?
FRIDAY, Johnny Falstaff, John Evans and I will make sweet, sweet music during an event called “Heights Live” in an old church in the Houston Heights. Last time we played together in College Station did not go so well… (Here’s why) Matt Matthews came out to record the show and broadcast it live through the FM airwaves, but apparently we got really drunk. Long story short, after the “performance” was over, Johnny laid down this rule. “When I am playing, No one else plays!” Though he said this to both me and John, i think it was directed at me. “Hank, You played whah whah all over my sweet bluegrass music.” Later that night as I was making promising headway on an extremely beautiful brunette, John & Johnny laid down the mother of all cock blocks on me. They weren’t even trying to get the girl for themselves (cause they had no chance), they simply amused themselves by sabotaging my promising evening. So, This Friday night when we perform in this old church, paybacks are going to be Hell!

Kelley Devine
Kelley is from the same shit-hole small town I’m from. She never said much. Come to think of it, she didn’t smile much either. Perhaps because in Cypress Texas it behooves one to march in a straight line and do what you’re supposed to. We used to sit at suburban stoplights on the backs of horses. Once green, we would race down a long grassy path (she always won) to the creek and surrounding wooded trails. Damn i miss that. Anyway so 15 years go by and I start bumping into Kelley here in Downtown Houston. She’s an artist now and when i say artist, i don’t mean some lazy scenester schlepping paint on a canvas while on acid. She’s a brilliant talent! So Kelley texted me recently that she sold one of her favorite sculptures and I could tell she was torn about it. Selling work is an artists livelyhood, It’s the means to exist and live to fight another day. So why sadness?Artists like Kelley bore deep. Their work is the product of time, devotion, sacrifice, risk, passion, history, and emotional regurgitation, but with Kelley, there is a one-of-a-kind product. Once sold, she’ll probably never see it again. It would be the equivalent of the Backtones selling a song to Joe Schmo and never singing it ever again, never hearing it, never feeling it.
